There are quite a few different lights, buttons, and knobs in any given vehicle. Some of the most important symbols will reside on your dashboard. They all serve a purpose, primarily to inform the driver of any mishaps or potential issues with your vehicle. The image above is one of an engine temperature light.

On occasion, you might not know what one means, or have a misunderstanding of its meaning. Understanding rather than having to decipher them is important. Knowing the meanings of common warning lights, like the engine temperature light, can help to maintain your vehicle to last long term. Not only to save money in your pocket but to salvage your cars resale potential.

We’re here to talk about one of the more confusing symbols: the engine temperature warning light. Especially in the Oklahoma weather, you want to be as aware of all lights that could be of importance this coming season.

This symbol may look intimidating, and no, it is not a sailboat in the ocean. It’s important to know though. Having this symbol is not a good thing, it means that your engine is overheating. Oklahoma weather is freezing or burning. When it is burning, this light can appear.

What happens next? First, turn off your AC, you need your hottest setting, this will pacify the heat inside of your engine. Turn it all the way up, in full throttle. Next, turn off the unnecessary items; radio, phone chargers, etc. Then, pull over to a safe location, turn your vehicle off and wait.

Let your engine rest and settle if possible; finally, check your coolant level. This is located under your hood; it will have a cap that you remove. If unsure, check your car guide or use Internet connection to find references before continuing. There is no need to injure yourself in this case.

If the coolant level does appear low, with a high probability of it being so, add water or coolant, you should always keep an emergency supply of either in your car for safety.
